The Natick Recreation and Parks Summer Performing Arts Series presents Concerts on the Common with the Cocabanana Band performing the first concert of the season.

Pack up a picnic, and bring your family to the Natick Common, at the corner of Routes 27 and 135, on Monday, June 20 from 7 to 9 p.m.

The Cocabanana Band will play music from the Caribbean. More information about the band can be found on their website. The Rain Date is scheduled for Tuesday, June 21, from 7 - to 9 p.m., on the Natick Common.

“The Monday Night Concert Series is a 9-week series that has been running for as long as I can remember,” said Jon Marshall from the Recreation and Parks Department. “There have been a number of great bands over the years mostly all coming from the Metrowest Area."

The 2011 concert schedule is as follows:

June 20 - The Cocabanana Band, Caribbean Music

June 27 - Roy Scott Big Band, Big Band Sound

July 11 - HELP!, All Beatles Music

July 18 - The Gary Bernath Band, Blues and Funk

July 25 - Classic Grove, Jazzy R&B

August 1 - Group Therapy, Country with Soul

August 8 - Alter Ego, Country Rock

August 15 - 3 of a Kind, New Summer St.

August 22 - Voices of Metrowest

Sound engineer, Peter Thompson, who has over 10 years of experience, will setup the music to fill Natick Common.

Natick Pegasus will record the concert series for TV viewing. The shows will be featured on local cable access a few times throughout the summer.

The Charles River Rotary will be selling concessions, including hot dogs, chips, soda and water and what Marshall calls “the best popcorn in the state.” All of the money raised by the Rotary during the concert series will go to the many charities the group has donated to throughout the years.

The Natick Police Department and auxiliary officers have been working with Recreation and Parks for many years to help get people safely to and from the event.

Marshall said that the series, “is a collaboration throughout the community. There are a number of groups and a number of individuals that come together to provide a night enjoyment for the residents of Natick. It's a time to come together to catch up, sing, laugh and enjoy being on one of the great spots in Natick.”
